Today I became very anxious.
I was in the midst of putting together my portfolio to apply for writing jobs, and it all became so overwhelming. I have plenty to say — my mind runs 100+ miles per hour — but when it comes time to sit down and focus on what I need to get done, here comes… <s>anxiety</s>.
That’s not grammatically correct, I know. But I wanted to strike through that word — to take the power away from it. I’m so sick of it showing up.
The best way I know to combat this is to step back, breathe, and refocus. That gives me space to return to what I was trying to accomplish. I also keep a few encouraging videos saved — and I search for new ones too — just to help me push through.
The best thing you can do for yourself, especially when you start feeling discouraged, is to see someone else’s struggle — and how they overcame it.
I don’t always look to celebrities who’ve made it past huge obstacles (though that’s inspiring too). I look for the lesser known.
They’re rock stars to me. Because they keep going.
They don’t let fear or insecurity stop them from chasing what’s calling them.
So the next time you need a nudge back to the version of yourself you’re becoming —
Seek encouragement from someone who’s already left behind what you’re trying to walk out of.
Lovingly,
~Ree
